Grand Manyo Bridge Photo Event
Togura Kamiyamada Onsen in Chikuma City was once a thriving hub of geisha culture. During its peak, over 400 geishas graced the area, creating a vibrant and lively atmosphere in the hot spring town. The photo shown here captures the glory days, with geishas gathering in their full splendor on the Manyo Bridge, a landmark of the town.
However, with the evolution of travel styles and the decline of group tourism, the geisha union was disbanded in 2021. This has led to a significant decrease in the number of geishas and the gradual fading of the onsen town’s rich geisha culture.
In an effort to bring renewed attention to this unique tradition and revitalize the hot spring town, we are hosting the Grand Manyo Bridge Photo Event!
Event Details
On this day, we invite you to change into kimono at home and gather on the Manyo Bridge! Together, let’s recreate the iconic scene that symbolizes the geisha culture of Togura Kamiyamada Onsen. Participants will line up on the bridge for a spectacular group photo session. 👘

- Photography Time: Meet at 11:30 AM / Photo session starts at 12:00 PM

- Eligibility: Open to all ages, genders, and kimono styles!

Please register in advance, even if you plan to participate without using the kimono dressing service, so we can manage participant numbers.
Kimono Dressing Experience Package
For those who would love to join the photo session but don’t have their own kimono, we offer a kimono rental and dressing package at Togura Kamiyamada Onsen.
Note: The kimono dressing experience package registration has now closed.
Participants could choose their favorite kimono, enjoy a dressing experience, and join the photo session in style.
